Top Ten: Book Checkout 2021/2022

Hi Library friends! The end of the year is here and the Learning Commons is closed. So I thought this would be a great time to look back on the year and find out which books were checked out the most. So here are the top ten checkouts for the 2021/2022 school year. What were your library's top ten?

Graphic Novels

The clear winner when it comes to graphic novels is the HiLo series by Judd Winick. The students really loved this series and some kids finished the series then went back and read it again. What did surprise me is that there was only Amulet book one on the list, it used to be so much more popular in earlier years.

Chapter Books

The winner this year which came as absolutely no surprise was the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. My students love this series and are always asking me about the latest in the series. I was surprised about Mr. Terupt though. It went from never checked out to being in the top ten. Just goes to show you the power of a teacher. This year one of our fifth grade teachers read Because of Mr. Terupt at the beginning of the year as a classroom read aloud so then all her students wanted to check out the rest of the series and also recommended it to their friends in other grades.

Picture Books

The winning series this year is clearly the Pinkalicious series which is the go to book for a lot of my Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Yet, reigning supreme is The Book with No Pictures. We need more books like this. We have 3 copies in the school and they are always checked out. The waiting list on this book is the longest of any book in the library and it's one of my favorite books to read aloud to my Pre-K kiddos.

Nonfiction Books

Nonfiction books are our least circulated books unless it's about animals then all of a sudden the kids are interested. But the clear winner in the animal department are books about cats. If I looked at the top 30 books in the LC it would be filled with cats, dogs, dinosaurs and vehicles and maybe a book about rocks and minerals. My students are predictable when it comes to what nonfiction books float their boat.
