Hey reader friends! I've got a new review for my Summer Reading Challenge!

Closed for the Season by Mary Downing Hahn

Book Talk Blurb:

Logan and his family have just moved into a new town and are excited to get ready for the new school year but when their new neighbor Arthur lets them now that their house was the scene of an unsolved murder, Logan and his new pal Arthur set off to solve the murder of Mrs. Donaldson and find out the truth about the embezzled money from the now defunct theme park The Magic Forest. These two boys are going to have an interesting summer will they find out who murdered Mrs. Donaldson or will they be next on the murderer's hit list?

Review:

A good murder mystery for older kids. The culprit is a little obvious and the mystery isn't all that mysterious but for kids it's great. The twist at the end, with Nina, was interesting if a little contrived. I also have a problem with Logan's mom, especially when she refuses to listen to her son's side of the story about vandalizing the library and how she kept thrusting him into a friendship with Antonio despite him being nothing like him. He was clearly uncomfortable with the situation and she insisted that it was his fault for not trying harder. Parents not listening to their kids is kind of a pet peeve of mine especially when the kids is clearly uncomfortable.

I think it's a good transition work from Middle Grade to Young Adult. It's themes lean towards YA but the writing style is more MG. It might be a good book for young teenagers who are reading at a lower level.
